There is a degree to which the most advanced have to advance in order to bring along the whole. If you've tried to push water in a bathtub, you'll see this. The water sloshes forward and, with no where to go, sloshes back to collide with the rest of the water moving forward behind it. If the advanced aren't able to move forward, their energies are diverted towards getting even more from those behind. Thwarted from movement forward, they return to compete. Progress needs a path.
This is just one of the reasons that we need to move beyond the information economy to an entrepreneurial economy.

This is my argument for pushing the deadheads out of the classroom and into the daytime detention center.
Far too often the "potentially advanced" are deterred from education by the disrupters who have no interest in education at all. Teachers spend an inordinate amount of time dealing with disrupters in many classrooms, and those who wish to learn and advance are penalized through no fault of their own.
We need more "gifted" programs, and we need more emphasis on keeping the disrupters away from average kids who just want to go to school.
If I had my way, every school system would have a boot camp. I'm a kick-ass liberal.
